Nebo Bush Poet's Smoko
Now celebrating its 23rd year, Council is proud to present this significant community event dedicated to keeping alive the great Australian tradition of bush poetry. Visitors will be entertained by performances from local poets and visitors – anyone may perform. Some recite poems they have written or give renditions of classics such as “The Man from Snowy River” or “Clancy of the Overflow”; others tell tall tales.
Poet Dan Lockyer, a long-time supporter of the event, will entertain the crowd and invite locals and visitors to step up to the podium and have their say.
This year’s guest poet is Mick Martin a well known and nationally acclaimed bush poet he has released a number of publications and recordings. Mick has been a long serving member of the Australian Bush poets Association ABPA. This year he will host a poetry workshop as one of the activities.
Entry is free of charge. The gate will open at 8am with raffle tickets on sale and a lucky door prize. Smoko will be available for purchase from the Nebo/Sarina Range QCWA.
The poetry program will run from 9.00am. If you’d like to tell a tall tale or perform a poem (your original creation or one written by someone else) please register by speaking with a staff member of your local library, calling 1300 ISAACS or by completing the form via https://speakup.isaac.qld.gov.au/ You may also register on the morning of the event by speaking with Council staff on the gate.
