Isaac Regional Council advises that the redevelopment of the Moranbah Community Centre is nearing completion.
Internal construction is finished, with the final fit-out underway. External works, including landscaping and concreting, remain on track for completion in late February.
With its refreshed look and feel, the Moranbah Community Centre will also undergo a name change, ushering in a new era as the Isaac Events Centre, following a resolution passed at Isaac Regional Council’s January Ordinary Meeting.
Honouring its rich history since its establishment in 1974, the centre will retain many cherished aspects of its past while transforming into a modern, state-of-the-art venue.
As a vibrant hub for the Isaac region, it will continue to host a diverse range of events, including balls, weddings, shows, movies, meetings, conferences, trade fairs, and dances—elevating functions to new heights.
Originally Moranbah’s first and only place of worship, the centre now steps into the future as a premier destination where tradition meets innovation, creating unforgettable experiences for generations to come.
The name change aligns with the major redevelopment and reinforces the centre’s role as Isaac’s leading events facility.
The official name change will take effect once construction and furnishings are completed, in time for the community day planned for Saturday, 22 March 2025.
Details about the Isaac Events Centre Community Day will be shared in the coming weeks.
The laneway between the centre, Ted Rolfe Oval, and the C&K Kindy car park will remain closed to vehicles for the duration of the project.
Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks the community for its patience.

Background
Community gave feedback on the future use and suitability of the MCC and a community reference group was formed.
Over the last three years community centres around the Isaac region have been upgraded inline with Council’s broader strategy to improve community facilities.
Moranbah is made up of three and a half divisions and over a third of the region’s population. As such the funding of this project is reflective of the size of the population it will service.
The project will address two objectives, the first being the requirement to make the MCC compliant with building standards and the second is to cater for growing demand from hirers for modernised facilities.
On completion the MCC will provide an exceptional corporate function centre paired with community spaces that make the venue a viable alternative to using out of region facilities.
A building inspection in 2021 also identified general maintenance and other works required to bring components of the building in line with building codes and standards, particularly disabled access, firefighting equipment and lighting.
In order to better understand and develop a plan to address these limitations, Isaac Regional Council worked with the Community Reference Group, Bauhinia Architects and SGL Consulting Group team to prepare a master plan for the centre.
A range of issues have been identified by council stakeholders that impact functionality of the venue, with several improvements suggested to address these issues.
