Flood Studies
There are many areas impacted by flood across the Isaac Region. Isaac Regional Council is continuing to work towards understanding our flood risk better to improve the resilience of our communities and the availability of flood information to our community.
Each flood event is different. The rain falls in different locations and at different intensities. What happened in the last flood will not necessarily be replicated in the next flood. However, with each flood event we can better prepare the community through more accurate predictive modelling of future flooding.
Council’s Flood Study Program seeks to improve our understanding of the flood risks to our communities in order to manage risk and support emergency preparedness and infrastructure planning.
What is a flood study?
A flood study is a technical investigation of flood behaviour for a particular catchment, river or creek. The aims of a flood study are to define existing flood behaviors, including depths, extents and velocities, which can be used to determine the level of flood hazard risk for a given location.
Flood studies help inform practices such as building, land use planning, community awareness and disaster management, with the aim of minimising risk and protecting people, property and infrastructure.
Flood studies explore the impacts of existing and projected climate conditions for several key rainfall events.
Public Consultation
Council is currently undertaking public consultation on three recently completed flood studies. Land owners who are impacted by these flood studies will have received a letter in the mail notifying them of the flood studies.
