The Community Education and Compliance Department is looking for a passionate, experienced, and highly motivated Environmental Health Officer to join our team in Moranbah on a permanent, full-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate!

The Environmental Health Officer has core responsibilities for ensuring the physical health and well-being of the community, delivered through a range of regulatory, inspection, monitoring and public education activities. Under the direction of the Lead Environmental Health Officer, this position provides practical, customer-focused service across a variety of environmental health responsibilities.

On a typical day, an Environmental Health Officer at the Council may conduct food safety audits, inspect personal appearance services, investigate public health issues like illegal dumping, hoarding, and squalor complaints, and address environmental concerns such as noise, nuisance, and water contamination. Additionally, the role encompasses a range of community education, permitting and licensing activities within the Community Education and Compliance department.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Health from an accredited course (please see the link) https://www.eh.org.au/workforce/accredited-courses
  • Open ‘C’ class driver’s licence.
  • Sound technical knowledge encompassing public health, environmental protection, health promotion, social issues and relevant legislative requirements in Queensland.
  • Demonstrated capacity to conduct research and draft correspondence, reports, and other documentation.
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written) and interpersonal abilities focused on delivering quality customer service.
  • Robust time management, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Understanding and the ability to apply environmental principles and legislation within Environmental Health and Local Government contexts.
  • Ability to demonstrate working under general direction with freedom to act within defined established practices.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft applications is required.

For this position we offer:

  • Salary $79,607.52 - $86,736.17 per annum plus allowances (Stream A, Level 3 – 4)
  • Based in Moranbah
  • 5 weeks annual leave pro-rata @ 17.5% loading
  • Up to 14% super in accordance with IRC’s Certified Agreement
  • RDO’s in accordance with IRC’s Certified Agreement
