One of Australia’s largest resource regions is poised to become a beacon of innovation and collaboration with the establishment of a $41.7 million state-of-the-art hub.

Today, the Isaac region celebrated a pivotal moment with a sod turning ceremony, marking the commencement of construction for the Isaac Resources Excellence Precinct.

Strategically located at the corner of Moranbah Access Road and Railway Station Road, in the heart of the Bowen Basin, this project sets the stage for a future of unparalleled growth and advancement.

Proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Resources Community Infrastructure Fund in association with the Australian Government, with $39.7 million contributed by the Queensland Government and $2 million by the Australian Government.

This ambitious project led by Isaac Regional Council aims to develop a skilled and diversified workforce.

The precinct promises to drive innovation and technological advancements in the traditional resources sector while also supporting research into future opportunities associated with mine site rehabilitation and post mine land use.

It will also offer education and reskilling opportunities, directly benefiting the local workforce.

Since its inception in September 2020, the project has engaged various stakeholders to develop a comprehensive strategy.

The goal is to enable economic and social diversification, leveraging opportunities in the evolving resources and renewables sector.

The precinct will feature multi-faceted learning, research, teaching, and collaboration spaces.

Highlights include a mining heritage centre, research and development facilities for critical minerals, renewable energy technologies, and a dual sector learning centre that mimics a university campus environment.

The precinct is expected to be built by 2027 and once the project is completed it will be handed to Resources Centre of Excellence and Country Universities Centre.
