Flying foxes in Moranbah have moved into Coughlan Park to avoid disturbance during the day. This has resulted in some branches dropping from the established trees in the park.

Temporary fencing has been placed under the colony to limit the risk to the public in the event of further branch falls.

Footpaths around the park remain open and are excluded from the temporary fencing.

Isaac Regional Council continues to monitor the flying fox colony roosting in yards around Bradman Street, Mills Avenue, Barraclough Crescent, Kangaroo Drive, Chifley Court, Hart Court, Hannan Drive, and Flinders Drive in Moranbah.

Little Red Flying Foxes migrate through Isaac region townships annually between August and May as part of their greater migration along Australia’s eastern coast.

Residents should consider trimming yards in their yards as the most effective method in the Isaac Region of deterring flying foxes from establishing colonies in their trees.

Management actions by residents or Council on flying foxes are regulated by the Department of Environment, Science, and Innovation and should be in accordance with the Nature Conservation Act 1992.
