Landfill closure and transition to transfer station_Glenden
Published on 05 March 2024
Isaac Regional Council would like to advise the Glenden community of upcoming changes at the Glenden Waste Management Facility due to Queensland Government legislation requirements.
The installation of the split-level transfer station works is expected to commence early April 2024 and it is planned the modified site will be in operation for public use from 1 July 2024.
All visitors will continue to check in with site staff and inform them of the type of waste items they have, so they can be directed to the appropriate disposal point.
Once the transfer station has been constructed, large vehicles will not be permitted to dispose of landfill waste at the site. Smaller vehicles, such as cars, vans, utes, and small trailers, will be allowed to use the transfer station.
Residents are advised to maintain caution during the works, exercise patience and follow any directional signage in place at the site.
This project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s 2022-24 Local Government Levy Ready Grant Program in association with Isaac Regional Council.
Under the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 201, landfill sites in Queensland require a weighbridge to accurately measure the leviable waste material received for landfill. Council finds it financially unjustifiable to continue operating the site as a landfill beyond 30 June 2024.
Council is committed to minimising disruptions during the construction phase and thanks the community for its patience. Further updates about the project will be provided over the following months.
