Partial temporary closure of Hoods Lagoon footpath
Published on 13 October 2023
Isaac Regional Council advises that the Little Red Flying Fox colony at Hoods Lagoon has increased as part of the species annual migration through the Isaac Region to pollinate hardwoods. Their roosting behaviour can cause breakage to trees along the Lagoon so a temporary barricade will be installed along the Hoods Lagoon footpath from the boardwalk between Mary MacKillop to the pond whilst numbers are high in this area.:
Friday, 13 October 2023. Until further notice.

Pedestrians are required to remain outside the temporary fencing. Council continues to monitor the flying fox roost and will provide the community with updates.
Council recognises the communities’ concerns regarding flying foxes and is committed to the delivery of best-practise management techniques as adopted in the Hoods Lagoon Flying-Fox Management Plan. The Management Plan underwent community consultation in 2022 and 2023 and was adopted by Council on 27 September 2023. The Management Plan is available on Council’s website Flying Foxes - Isaac Regional Council
