Isaac Regional Council advises that a Little Red Flying Fox colony has established in trees at Centenary Park, Hoods Lagoon as part of the species annual migration through the Isaac Region. To protect pedestrians from potential fallen branches, a temporary barricade will be installed along the Hoods Lagoon footpath and a detour will be in place through Centenary Park from:

Tuesday, 3 October 2023. Until further notice.

Pedestrians are required to remain outside the temporary fencing and exercise caution if walking under vegetation where a colony is established. Council continues to monitor the flying fox roost and will provide the community with updates.

Residents are reminded that flying foxes are a protected species under Queensland’s Nature Conservation Act 1992 and it is against the law to harm or disturb a flying fox roost.

Council recognises the communities’ concerns regarding flying foxes and is committed to the delivery of best-practise management techniques as adopted in the Hoods Lagoon Flying-Fox Management Plan. The Management Plan underwent community consultation in 2022 and 2023 and was adopted by Council on 27 September 2023. The Management Plan will be available on Council’s website in the coming days.

Council thanks residents for their understanding and apologises for any inconvenience caused.
