UPDATE - WEIGHBRIDGE INSTALLATION

Construction works at the waste management facility are nearing completion, and it is expected to be fully operational by June. The new weighbridge and gatehouse have been installed with a sealed road under construction. Residents and businesses will notice changes at the facility.  Please see the following frequently asked questions:

What changes will I notice at the dump?

  • There will be a new entrance and exit.
  • The operator will be stationed at the new gatehouse.
  • Changes to internal site roads and traffic management, including traffic lights, cameras and boom gates.
  • Minor changes to the layout of the resource recovery area.

    What isn’t changing?

  • No changes to opening times, fees and charges, chargeable and non-chargeable items.
  • Recording of waste transactions, vehicle registration numbers and other information – which has been in place since 2011.

What changes will there be to my experience of visiting the dump?

  • ALL vehicles MUST drive across the weighbridge.
  • ALL visitors MUST report the type of waste items so the operator can direct to the correct disposal point.
  • Waste will be weighed to determine a weight that is accurate to the nearest 20kg.
  • Visitors may be asked to deposit waste in a different location away from the active landfill face.
  • Visitors may experience a short delay waiting for boom gates to raise.
  • Images of waste transactions at the weighbridge will be captured by Council’s waste data system, compliant with privacy legislation.

What else do I need to know?

  • The weighbridge installation is in line with section 57(1)(c) of the Waste Reduction & Recycling Act 2011 – with every landfill in Queensland from 1 July 2024.
  • ALL vehicles including large trucks, private cars, utes and trailers carrying waste destined for landfill MUST weigh in and out of the site via the weighbridge, a requirement of the Waste Reduction & Recycling Act 2011.

This project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s 2022-24 Local Government Levy Ready Grant Program in association with Isaac Regional Council.
